In honour of Veronica Roth’s ‘Divergent’ series getting a fierce new makeover (which we didn’t hesitate to pick up ASAP) we thought we’d remind ourselves exactly why this lady is one of our favourite authors, like ever.
1. She understands the plight of introverts everywhere. Obviously, we’d like to go out, but…Netflix, bed, the close proximity to pre-bought food.
The thing about Instagram is that you have to, like…go out and do things worth documenting.
— Veronica Roth (@VeronicaRoth) December 30, 2015
2. And even though she’s a bestselling author, she still gets nervous when people read whatever she’s writing:
sitting at your computer while, five feet away, your husband reads your work…is a special kind of hell. (DOES HE HATE IT?! AHHH.)
— Veronica Roth (@VeronicaRoth) January 20, 2016
WHAT DOES THAT EXPRESSION MEAN. IS IT GOOD OR BAD.

Conclusion: husband SEEMED to like it (it was the short story for @naturallysteph's anthology!), but it's anyone's guess at this point.

3. She gave every aspiring writer and #NaNoWriMo participant hope that their work DOESN’T actually suck. In fact, that whole feeling is just part of the creative process.

4. She’s got the most adorable dog.
Just had to comfort the dog when, in her exuberance to follow me up the stairs, she tripped and fell on them.

5. She’s created some of our favourite characters in YA literature – and appreciates sometimes they’re loved because of…well, less-than-profound reasons.
Someone brought this sign to the event in Dallas last night. I laughed. A lot. A photo posted by veronica roth (@vrothbooks) on
6. She’s a Potterhead who takes the time to ponder the big issues.
Spending my Saturday musing about whether it's actually my animagus form that would be an albatross, rather than my patronus. #nerdlife
— Veronica Roth (@VeronicaRoth) January 9, 2016
I mean, if a patronus is supposed to be your protector, it likely doesn't need to precisely reflect YOU…but needs to be what you aren't.

FFS, Veronica, get to work.

7. And cosplays as Draco Malfoy. 50 points to Slytherin.

8. But mostly, we love her because she’s an incredible writer who gave us the ‘Divergent’ series. Veronica, thank you for breaking our hearts, and showing us what selflessness, bravery and love look like.
