Returning to the small screen is the 90’s cult classic hit, The X-Files (cue creepy opening music), which originally ran from 1993 to 2002. Starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, the 6-episode miniseries, after 14 years off the air, premiered last Sunday night, and boy did it bring back the nostalgia.

You better check out our the five reasons why you need this show in your life. You won’t regret it.

1. MULDER AND SCULLY

Nine seasons, two movies and 14 years later, our beloved Mulder and Scully are back on our screens, and it is glorious. The main thing that excites us about this is their on-screen chemistry. Not many shows can produce such complex and deep connections between their main characters, however The X-Files hits the nail on the head, again. From Mulder’s government conspiracy rants to Scully’s sense of realism, we couldn’t be happier that these two are back.

2. THE CONSPIRACY

Probably the most fascinating thing about The X-Files is the conspiracy storyline. From the aliens planning to colonise the earth to the government using alien technology to attempting to subvert democracy and assume power over the Earth, it’s impossible for anybody to not think what our own government could be hiding…?

3. MONSTER-OF-THE-WEEK EPISODES

One of the main things that made The X-Files so good was the standalone monster-of-the-week episodes where Mulder and Scully would investigate creepy, weird cases. There are only 6 episodes of this miniseries event and there is no doubt in our minds that the standalone cases will leave us awake at night.

4. THE MODERN-ERA

In the 90’s, The X-Files was the show to test their viewers and show things most series wouldn’t even dare. Now, in 2016, it’s interesting to see how Chris Carter (creator of The X-Files) brings the show to the modern-era with the development of technology and better special effects.

5. THE MYSTERY OF THE CIGARETTE SMOKING MAN

Last time we saw CSM, he appeared in the season 9 finale and was incinerated after a missile launched at this hideaway. However in the new episodes, he seems to be barely alive and still smoking that damn cigarette. How is this possible? Is he an alien clone? An alien shapeshifter? Did he even die? So many questions, so little episodes to answer them in.
