These seemingly innocent pop songs are actually sending us all a sinister af message

You only have to look at the site name to see that we love a pop banger or two! That said, have you ever thought about the sinister af messages behind all your fave songs?

Don’t worry, guys and gals! We’re not about to ruin Harry Styles or Little Mix, for you. Heavens forbid! But hear us out, okay?

We’re on about catchy lyrics being taken out of context.

Strip a song of it’s punchy backbone and it can be transformed from a singalong chart essential to something weird… very weird – it could even be the soundtrack to a dystopian novel.

So, what’s got us thinking this darkly, then? Well as some of you know, we’ve been reading the thrilling, ‘Crazy House’. It’s James Patterson’s latest book and will honestly have to on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

17-year-old Becca has been snatched from her small hometown and thrown into a maximum-security prison on Death Row. It’s up to her twin sister, Cassie, to go to some seriously sinister and extreme lengths get her back.

QUIZ: What % angel-blooded are you?

Can we please just talk about Patrick freakin’ Ness?

Plan your prison escape and we’ll tell you which YA character is actually your long lost twin!

In fact, it’s almost as chilling as these pop song one-liners. Brace yourself, guys because things are going to get weird fast.

These are the anthems for your next dystopian novel…

Little Mix – ‘Down & Dirty’

“I’m bringin’ the fire, so call me Daenerys”

Yikes! NO ONE wants to be burned by one of Daenerys dragons. That’s just not cool.

Harry Styles – ‘From The Dining Table’

“Woke up the girl who looked just like you, I almost said your name”

C’mon Harry. We love you but that’s just plain awkward…

Liam Payne – ‘Strip That Down’

“You know, I used to be in 1D, now I’m out, free”

Break our hearts why don’t you, Liam?! Jeez.

Camila Cabello – ‘I Have Questions’

“Why did you leave me here to burn?”

Taylor Swift – ‘Bad Blood’

“And rub it in so deep, salt in the wound like you’re laughing right at me”

All these songs sound so violent…

Ed Sheeran – ‘New Man’

“Tribal tattoos and he don’t know what it means”

Harsh but hilarious!

Fifth Harmony – ‘I Lied’

“I’ve said, “I love you,” but I lied”

OUCH – that’s gotta hurt!
