Nathan Sykes speaks Ariana Grande and feuding with 1D on Zach Sang radio show

Just days after Zayn Malik appeared on the Zach Sang radio show, Nathan Sykes popped in for a chat too to speak about the Ariana Grande-assisted version of his single ‘Over and Over Again’ and THAT feud his band The Wanted had with One Direction.

When asked if ‘Over and Over Again’ was written about Ariana, Nathan answered: “No, it wasn’t. It was written about someone else and the problem is…they still don’t know it’s written about them. It’s awkward because they text me the day it came out, they were like “You know what, this new song is great” and I was like, “You know what, I’m so happy you love it”. I’ve past the point [of telling them].”

Speaking about getting Ariana to feature the track, he said: “I was in London after we released the song in the UK and I was like, ‘You know who would sound great on this song, who would absolutely kill it…Ari’. So we got in contact and she was like, ‘You know what, I’d love to’, which was awesome because we did ‘Almost Is Never Enough’ together. It shows maturity, real maturity, that whatever happens in the past happened, but we can put that to the side, because the main thing is music. I have so much respect for her as an artist, I think she’s an incredible vocalist and she absolutely killed it. It feels like the songs lifts when she starts singing, like the heavens have opened and she has arrived.”

And finally, chatting about the really random Twitter war The Wanted had with One Direction, he added: “With that the defence thing went. I’m not very confrontational, I’m not good at that. I went into hiding. I hate conflict and arguments. When I saw all the drama go on, I didn’t know what to do. I’ve never been in a fight before, or an argument. I think I was listening to 1D at the time and then I went on Twitter and was like ‘What is going on here’? I don’t remember how it started and I don’t think they do either. I spoke to Liam a few months ago and he was like, ‘What on Earth even happened wight that’? It was all very odd.”

It was odd, and we didn’t like it.

Nathan Sykes and Ariana Grande’s ‘Over and Over Again’ is out now.
