MP!er Julie shares her thoughts on Veronica Roth’s ‘post apocalyptic’ ‘Insurgent’

INSURGENTUK_B Format_CVR.inddDescribe the plot of ‘Insurgent’ in a tweet less than 140 characters please!
Tris, Four, Calab and Peter are once again entangled in a post apocalyptic future where people are still divided into five groups.

?Have you read the first book in the ‘Divergent’ series?
?Yes I have read the first book and I found it exciting and the characters were well laid out. I couldn’t wait to read ‘Insurgent’.

Have you seen the movie adaptation of the book? If so do you think the characters were portrayed well?
No not yet but I am eager to do so as soon as I can.

Without giving anything away, does the ending make you want to read the next in the series?
I was desperate to read the next book, the whole thing has twisted and turned and excited me beyond belief loved it.

?What genre would you class the book as?
This is a young adult book, and feels very post apocalyptic. I am in my mid 50’s but sadly a total geek for this genre of book (much to my children’s amusement).

What was the best bit?
The friendship and love that blossoms between Four and Tris, the relationship is very intense but believable and not soppy.

?Anything you didn’t like?
I hated that the series has finished and had to reread them all again.

Would you recommend the ‘Divergent’ series to your friends?
I have wholeheartedly recommended this book to people of my age who have similar interests and who I have seen since reading it. I have also told as many of my daughters (I have 2) friends as I can, both male and female.

Do you think it would appeal to girls or boys more? Or both?
It is hard to say if it is a boy or girl read but I think pretty much it has something for both sexes.

Anything else you’d like to tell us about the book?
The book is well plotted and the characters are comic book like in their heroism but do not have unbelievable super powers. It has many facets covering bravery, love, friendship, family tension and death.
