YOU REVIEW: MP!er Roisin shares her thoughts on ‘The Rain’ by Virginia Bergin. The first in a series of cling to your seat sci-fi thrillers.
Describe the plot of The rain: in a tweet – less than 140 characters please.
The rain takes you on the epic, emotional journey of Ruby Morris’ fight for survival, does the will to survive conquer the elements?
What genre would you class the book as?
The book clearly falls into the fantasy genre I mean there’s killer rain, but personally I think it really fits into the ever growing popular genre of dystopian lit.
What was the best bit?
In all honesty I cant think of a particular part that’s my favourite, I love the whole book! Although the whole writing as if it’s referring to it being made into a film is a great touch. Personally however I love the fact that there’s no real hero just a young girl who’s determined to survive
Anything you didn’t like?
The fact that it ended. Seriously though the only fault I had is that you didn’t get full closure on some of the charecters. It kinda made me feel like Hazel Grace reading an Imperial Affliction.
Would you recommend the rain to your friends?
Yes because its not that typical fantasy dystopian book. It’s different, it’s not completely unrealistic but not completely realistic either!
Do you think it would appeal to girls or boys more? Or both?
Personally because the main character is female it seems like natural instinct to say girls, however it’s not like there’s flying unicorns or ultra hot vampires that will limit the gender of the target audience.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about the book?
Yes. If dystopian lit, fantasy or even books about the weather interest you, get the book. It’s that book that regardless what you like you can enjoy! You also you may need tissues.
