YOU REVIEW: MP!er Jennifer shares her thoughts on ‘The Rain’ by Virginia Bergin. The first in a series of cling to your seat sci-fi thrillers.
Describe the plot of ‘The Rain’ in a tweet – less than 140 characters please!
Years ago an asteroid was heading for earth, a rocket was fired at it and it was smashed to smithereens. That was the beginning of the end for everyone on earth. A bacterium has been inside the asteroid and now it is in the rain and killing people that it touches. This is the story as told by Ruby Morris. (Bit longer than asked for, I got carried away!)
What genre would you class the book as?
What was the best bit?
My favourite bit was when Ruby went shopping along Oxford Street, suddenly she saw the most gorgeous person ever! In the end she managed to figure out it was a beautiful guy who gave her a stunning make over. It made me giggle how surreal this part of the book was with everything going on. The book makes you laugh as well as want to scream… in a good way.
Anything you didn’t like?
No! It was a well written book and told in a way that kept you wanting to read more. It makes you wonder what the world would be like if it happened, I kept looking out of the window at the dark sky filled with clouds and thinking what if?!
Would you recommend ‘The Rain’ to your friends?
Yes, in fact I’ve already recommended it to my friends and family.
Do you think it would appeal to girls or boys more? Or both?
I think it’s suitable for everyone, I read this book in 2 days and it’s not often that I can’t book a book down.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about the book?
I can’t wait to read the sequel ‘The Storm’ so I can find out what has happened to Ruby, I want to know if her dad and brother turn up at the house!
