Even Taylor Swift takes breaks between Taylurking her fans on Tumblr or looking smokin’ sexy in her music videos. On her last break, during her rehearsal for The BRIT Awards she slayed the music industry one more time.
International trade group IFPI crowned Taylor as Global Recording Artist of the year. The annual award honors the year’s top artist across physical sales, downloads and streaming worldwide. Even more impressively Taylor recently caused controversy when she pulled all her music from Spotify, so she basically smashed this with a fraction of it being streams. Impressive.
Released late last year, Slaylor’s fifth album ‘1989’ has sold over a gazillion of copies worldwide (precisely 8.6 million copies). It was the highest selling release since 2002 and the top selling album of 2014 in the US, where it has now spent 11 weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard 100 chart.
Dethroning One Direction, the topper on IFPI’s 2013 list, now at No. 2, Taylor proves once again that she can make all the tables turn
sorry, we had to with her ‘1989 era’. Our Lads released their latest studio album ‘Four’ in November, topping the Billboard 200 and becoming the first group to have their first four album debut atop the U.S. album chart.
Third place was claimed by Ed Sheeran, whose second album ‘X’ was Spotify’s most-streamed album of the year.
