Sam Smith scores double number one and makes chart history. G’wan Sammy boy!

The delightful Sam Smith has scored both this week’s number one single and album – and managed to make Official Charts history in the process.

Sam’s Comic Relief collaboration with US singer John Legend ‘Lay Me Down’ has become his fourth UK number one single alongside ‘La La La’, ‘Money On My Mind’ and ‘Stay With Me’.

His 2014 album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ has returned to the top spot for a non-consecutive eighth week – making Samuel the first male solo artist to achieve six different spells at number one with the same album.

In other chart news, Years & Years fall to number two with breakthrough single ‘King’, Flo Rida and Sage The Gemini score a new entry at number three with ‘GDFR’. Ellie Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You Do’ slides from numbers two to four whilst Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney round off the top five.

Madonna scores this week’s highest new entry on the UK Albums Chart with ‘Rebel Heart’ landing at number two, Ed Sheeran’s ‘x’ stays at number three and last week’s number one ‘Chasing Yesterday’ by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds falls to number four. George Ezra’s ‘Wanted On Voyage’ falls one place to five.
