Battle of the Bands: Kasabian v One Direction. Tom Meighan fuels new 1D beef.

At last night’s NME Awards, Kasabian’s front man Tom Meighan hit out at One Direction branding them as “five no-ones who won the lottery.” Rude af, right?

The singer went on to say “They’re massive but they’re a product, we’re not. They’re like shampoo. You buy it to put it in your hair and wash it out, like the Spice Girls.” THE SPICE GIRLS WERE A GREAT BAND, MR. MEIGHAN.

Because we obviously LURRRVE One Direction but can appreciate that Kasabian are a pretty cool band too, we’ve decided to solve this little rift in the old fashioned style with a good old Battle of the Bands contest.

Unfortunately 1D are too busy touring Australia to make it to the MP! offices for an actual song-off so instead we’ll be using each bands’ stats. #leggo.

Number of members:

Kasabian consists of four members – Tom Meighan, Sergio Pizzorno, Christopher Karloff and Chris Edwards. Incase any Kasabian fans have decided to check out the pop blogs and educate themselves in 1D (doubt it), their five members’ names are Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik.

As One Direction have more members than Kasabian, the point goes to them on this one. Although if ‘Coolest Band Member Name’ was a category Kasabian would win so hard. Sergio Pizzorno? Amaze.

UK number one singles:

One Direction have scored a whopping THIRTEEN number one singles across the globe with ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, ‘Little Things’, and ‘One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)’ being the three tracks that managed to top the UK singles charts. Kasabian unfortunately have never received a UK number one single but did come close in 2009 when their single ‘Fire’ reached number 3.

No question here, 1D are definitely taking this one having scored three times the amount of UK number ones as Kasabian. BONUS FACT: Did you know ‘Steal My Girl’ went to number one in Denmark? Us neither, thanks Wiki!

UK number one albums:

Although they’ve had no UK number one singles, Kasabian’s albums ‘Empire’, ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’, ‘Velociraptor!’ and ’48:13′ have all hit the top spot. One Direction’s ‘Take Me Home’, ‘Midnight Memories’ and ‘Four’ have all also reached number one but 2011’s #2 ‘Up All Night’ has stopped the boys from taking this round.

Awards Won:

Kasabian picked up Best Group, Best Album and Best Quote at last night’s NME Awards, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The band have also received a BRIT for British Group in 2010, a MOJO Award for Song of the Year, a previous four NME Awards in 2007, 2010 and 2012, and four Q Awards. Go lads!

However, One Direction have won an incredible ONE HUNDRED AND NINTEY(!) awards including five American Music awards, three Billboard Music awards, fifteen Capricho awards, four BRIT awards, an IFPI Global Recording Artist award, eighteen MTV awards, twenty-one Nickelodeon awards, and four NME Awards. See… there’s nothing wrong with winning Worst Band.

We have no words.

We’re sorry Tom, we do appreciate and respect you and your band, but 190 awards and three number one singles? That’d kill to wash through your hair… now we’re gonna get back to listening to the Spice Girls if you don’t mind.
