MP!er Leanne shares her thoughts on ‘Insurgent’ by Veronica Roth, ‘Tris’ sheer determination is inspirational’.

YOU REVIEW: This month we’re delving deep into the YA dystopian fiction ‘Insurgent’ the second book in the ‘Divergent’ trilogy by Veronica Roth. MP!er Leanne shares her thoughts below.

Describe the plot of ‘Insurgent’ in a tweet – less than 140 characters please!

The 2nd book in the amazing Divergent series finds Tris and Tobias on the run again, the two are stuck in the middle of conflict and turmoil. Finally Tris must accept who she is and use it to her advantage.

Have you read the first book in the Divergent series?
I have and completely loved it.

Have you seen the movie adaptation of the book? If so do you think the characters were portrayed well?
I’ve watched the movie hundreds of times, I think they couldn’t have casted better actors to play the characters. In my opinion, Shailene Woodley plays Tris better than any other actor could.

Without giving anything away, does the ending make you want to read the next in the series?
Yes. Yes. Yes. I can’t fathom the ending and honestly I’m ordering Allegiant the minute I finish this review.

What genre would you class the book as?
Young adult, fantasy.

What was the best bit?
My favourite part about this book is that regardless of the changing scenery around the characters they remain true to themselves. Even though Tris reaches her absolute lowest Tobias does not put pity on her and treats her as he does the whole way through.
Also Tris’ sheer determination is inspirational and to be honest she should be little girl’s role models.

Anything you didn’t like?
A few of the characters really irked me. However, those are the characters that make you appreciate the good guys even more. And that is what makes a book that extra bit amazing.

Would you recommend the Divergent series to your friends?
Yeah, of course. I sent my friend the trilogy for her birthday and she loved it as well, so good job Veronica Roth because that girl is quite hard to please at the best of times!

Do you think it would appeal to girls or boys more? Or both?
Both, definitely both. The romance and independency that Tris shows is appealing and also who doesn’t love a good battle and a few gun fights here and there, eh?

Handling emotions and adult stuff like Jess Day and Nick Miller do.
I'm a bit awkward but really nice. I have a turtle called Turtle and I believe in the "You should take a nap every day".
