YOU REVIEW: This month we’re delving deep into the YA dystopian fiction ‘Insurgent’ the second book in the ‘Divergent’ trilogy by Veronica Roth. MP!er Roisin shares her thoughts below.
Describe the plot of ‘Insurgent’ in a tweet – less than 140 characters please!
It’s about a dystopian world in which you have to make a direct choice on who you want to be regardless of the consequences
Have you read the first book in the Divergent series?
Yes it’s one of my favourite series!
Have you seen the movie adaptation of the book? If so do you think the characters were portrayed well?
Yes, in the books I think the way the characters change and develop is really clear from when Tris first choses Dauntless in the first book to when she takes a somewhat lead in ‘Insurgent’ you see a big change. I personally don’t think the film series is portraying that as well as it could.
Without giving anything away, does the ending make you want to read the next in the series?
Yes, I had already read it before the last book came out and I think it was one of the worst things having to wait for the next book because it’s such an unexpected cliff hanger.
What genre would you class the book as?
Dystopian lit with a bit of romance and occasional action
What was the best bit?
I like how certain characters aren’t always who you think they are
Anything you didn’t like?
Not really although I would love to know more about certain characters that seem to play an important part.
Would you recommend the Divergent series to your friends?
Do you think it would appeal to girls or boys more? Or both?
I think both. I know boys that have read the books who enjoy them as much as girls and vice versa.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about the book?
The book carries on pretty much straight from where the first book ends so I highly recommended making sure you’ve read the first one beforehand if you want to get the full enjoyment out of it.
