YouTube is such a huge community that has been building rapidly for ten years. We always hear about Miranda Sings, Jenna Marbles and the like, but what about other cool content creators who we should know about?
We’re interviewing less mainstream YouTubers that we think you definitely need to know about and love just as much as we do! We’ve spoken to Ellie AKA Elliegalaxies who has 6k subscribers and had a chat about her experience with YouTube.
What sort of content do you post?
I just talk to a camera and try to be funny/interesting and some people watch it for some reason! Haha! I don’t really have a set style. I vlog but I talk about all sorts of things. I like the variety.
What inspired you to create a YouTube channel?
I’d been watching YouTubers for so long and I’d always wanted to make videos myself but I’d never had the confidence to do it alone. But in 2012 a group of internet friends created a collab channel called ProfanityKids and asked me to be part of it. Of course I said yes! It gave me the confidence to start making my own videos!
What YouTubers do you admire?
I love the vlogbrothers. The work they do for charity is really great. I also really admire lots of female YouTubers too – emmablackery, doddleoddle, tyrannosauruslexxx, hannahgirasol, itswaypastmybedtime. I feel like there needs to be more popular female YouTubers.>
How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Talkative. Friendly. Honest. Protective. Vivacious. (I don’t even think I would describe myself as that last one. Just really like that word. It’s a great word to say. Vivacious.)
If you could collab with anyone in YouTube, who would it be and why?
Oh my gosh there are so many people I would love to collab with! I’d love to collab with emmablackery because we’ve been friends for a while and I’ve only managed to meet her in person once. I’d also love to collab with my friend DanielInSoManyWords but he lives all the way in America which makes it pretty difficult!
What is something we absolutely need to know about you?
I can probably talk about Harry Styles for hours and if I ever met him I think I’d cry or wet myself with excitement. Either way it’d be a total embarrassment.
What can we expect from you in the near future?
More content! I love making videos and I want to try and push myself to make a video every single week which might be pretty difficult as I have uni and a part time job to juggle now haha. But I want to do more book reviews and stuff because I love books and I don’t talk about them enough.
What are your goals for your channel?
I’d really like to get 7,000 subscribers by Summer In The City this year! And, if I manage to stick at weekly content, I’d like to get 10,000 by the end of the year. It might be a bit ambitious but honestly I’m just happy that anyone wants to watch the stuff I make. It’s totally amazing and I’m still pretty baffled by it.
What tips do you have for people considering to start their own YouTube channel?
Don’t wait around and just do it! Set up a camera and just talk for 20 minutes then cut out the rubbish bits and upload the good bits! I’d try to keep your videos under 5 minutes, if you can. Most people come to YouTube for short videos and not many people will watch an 11 minute video from an unknown YouTuber. You also don’t need any fancy cameras or lighting or whatever. I film on my iPhone and just sit in front of a window! If you want to make videos, just do it. Trust me, it’s so much fun and you meet so many great people through it.
This or That:
Italian or Chinese cuisine?
Chinese any day! If you buy me prawn toast, I will literally kiss you.
Cinema or DVD?
Cinema! That one was easy. The atmosphere’s incredible.
Night out or night in?
Night in. I love a good dance and whatever but nothing can beat a cup of tea and a rubbish documentary on Netflix.
Pop punk or pop rock?
Falling in front of your strangers or tripping over in front of your crush
Tripping over in front of my crush. Then I could stand up and use a really great pick-up line like ‘I’m falling for you.’ Smooth.
