Baking brownies. Easy, right? Yeah, we thought so too, so we decided to amp it up by making them gluten free and vegan. Surely with the help of an actual, proper, genuine pastry chef (we MP!ers have sisters in high places), it can’t go wrong…
Ha. It went a bit wrong.
We thought it was all going to go brilliantly well so we decided to double up the mixture. We made a mistake before we even began, tbh.
The best thing about making brownies is that you literally just chuck it all in the bowl and MIX. It’s weirdly satisfying.
Looks yum. And like a LOT of mixture.
We could totally watch this process for hours. It’s just hypnotising and we love it.
Ready for the oven! And this is where it started to go wrong…
It should have only taken around 30 minutes, but it ended up in there for 45 mins and we had to take it out because the top started looking…charred.
But it didn’t look too bad. Until the cracks started appearing and the middle began to sink.
“That’s okay, it usually does,” says the pastry chef.
Then it was time to pull it out of the tin and settle down for a brownie with Bake Off. Or not, as the case may be.
It was burned on the top and raw in the middle. Mary and Paul would have been ashamed. And the bits that were actually cooked properly didn’t even taste good! It was all powdery and bleurgh.
To add insult to injury, we then had to do the washing up…
We think we’re just going to buy our bake Off treats from now on.
