5 cringeworthy live TV fails, including THAT Oscars moment from last night

Erm…what the hell happened at the Oscars last night?

Could this go down in history as one of the biggest screw ups of all time? Yes, probably.

Two films dominated the 89th Academy Awards last night – ‘Moonlight’ and ‘La La Land’ and in the end it was a toss up between who would win the most coveted prize of Best Picture.

In a dramatic turn of events the presenters for Best Picture, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, announced ‘La La Land’ to be the winner and the cast trouped up to accept the award. But seconds later it was declared that there had been a mistake and the real winner of the award was the coming of age drama about a gay black man, ‘Moonlight’.

Chaos ensued as people tried to figure out how the mistake had happened. It turned out that the presenters had been given the envelope for Best Actress, which had been won by Emma Stone for ‘La La Land’ instead of the envelope for Best Picture.

But Emma and Ryan seemed to take it all in their stride and graciously stepped aside.

This will undoubtedly go down as one of the most awkward moments of live television ever to have been broadcast into millions of people’s homes. Mind you, it does have some serious competition, just check out these cringe moments which will make you grit your teeth.

1. Kanye interrupts Taylor Swift at VMAs 2009

I can only imagine what it must have been like for the then 19 year old Taylor Swift to have one of her biggest career achievements at that point ruined by Kanye West. After the rapper finishes his rant about how Beyonce should have won Taylor Swift can only stand there clutching her award with the most awkward AF expression on her face.

2. Miley Cyrus twerks on Robin Thicke’s crotch at VMAs 2013

Nothing and we mean NOTHING could have prepared us for this performance. Hannah Montana died that day.

3. Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction’ at the Super Bowl 2004

Janet Jackson was once one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, but in a shocking turn of events her music career was all but killed by one performance which would introduce the phrase ‘wardrobe malfunction’ into popular vernacular.

When Janet and Justin were announced as the entertainers for that year’s Super Bowl everyone knew it would be a steamy affair, but when Justin ripped off her bra at the end of the performance exposing her boob the world stopped. The moment quickly became the most replayed moment of TV history.
