Vanessa White has stepped out on her own following the announcement of The Saturdays’ hiatus and released her debut EP, fittingly titled ‘Chapter One’. So, what do we make of the EP? Is this the first chapter in Vanessa’s glittering solo career or will this venture be a very short story?
Track One: ‘Don’t Wanna Be Your Lover’
This is a smooth R&B song that shows off Vanessa’s powerful voice brilliantly. Although Vanessa is an amazing addition to The Saturdays, we can already tell that the R&B direction is definitely more suited to her. 3/5 Saturdays
Track Two: ‘Nostalgia’
‘Nostalgia’ follows on from the R&B sound that is heard on ‘Don’t Wanna Be Your Lover’ but adds more elements of a chilled vibe and has more of a rhythm than the EP’s opening track. 4/5 Saturdays
Track Three: ‘Relationship Goals’
This was the first snippet of Vanessa’s solo music that we got and, to be quite honest, we’re still not over it. We love this track. We’d say it’s the perfect mix between ‘Don’t Wanna Be Your Lover’ and ‘Nostalgia’ and wish it had got the proper push as a single that it deserved. 5/5 Saturdays
Track Four: ‘Lipstick Kisses’ Feat. Wretch 32
The final track on the EP is Wretch 32 assisted ‘Lipstick Kisses’ and, where the previous tracks have all been pop tinged, this feels like a real R&B track that you’d hear from somebody like Janet Jackson (showing our age, don’t mind us). 3.5/5
Total: 15.5/20. Hurry up with the full album yeah, Vanessa.
