Anybody with a decent amount of pop smarts knows that Sweden are officially Really Good at Music. From ABBA to Tove Lo, they are consistently cranking out catchy, well written tune-age and they even rule behind the scenes with the majority of pop’s biggest hitmakers – Max Martin (Katy Perry, Taylor Swift), Rami Yacoub (One Direction, The Saturdays), Shellback (Cher Lloyd, Maroon 5) – hailing from the Scandinavian country. Pretty good credentials, right?
Which brings us to the new kid on the Scandi block, Tove Styrke. Styrke is already a big star in her native homeland having come third place in Swedish Idol and with a debut album already under her belt. Now she’s preparing for international chart domination with new single ‘Borderline’, a skittering, dancehall influenced number with a total ear worm of a chorus that you won’t be able to stop humming for days. It also straddles that fine line between indie cool and all out pop banger which is no easy feat.
Sweden strikes again!
