Thinking of starting a fan account? Here’s 5 top tips to make it a success

These days fan accounts are everywhere. You know, those Selena and 5H fan pages on Twitter you depend on for your daily dose of your fave? Well, they don’t just run themselves. They’re run by you and I. Anyone can start one up, but only the best can make them a success.

We consulted a massive 5SOS fan account (@aussquad5sos) and the wonderful account owner, Emily, gave us some tips on how to make sure your fan account shoots for the stars. Here’s what she had to say…

Running a fan account is great fun, you get to interact with people from all over the world and you all have at least one common interest whether it be 1D, 5SOS, Bieber, Harry Potter etc. Whether you run one of the biggest fan accounts on Twitter or want to get started on one, here are some tips for you:

1. Be different

  • Find an original username to use.
  • Have an original angle/ take on reporting news.
  • Make yourself stand out from everyone else.

For example, if there’s already an account dedicated to tweeting about Ed Sheeran’s socks then you probably don’t need to cover this.

2. Always be friendly and interact with other users

Being rude and starting arguments with others is the quickest way to lose followers, and that’s not the aim of the game!

Start conversations about movies, new songs or how Ashton Irwin’s new haircut is the cutest! Be creative and make up some games people can participate in, and don’t forget to reply and be friendly!

Find Ashton‘s Snapchat username and thousands of other artists in our Snapchat Directory.

3. Be as drama free as possible

The world would be a nicer place if there was half as much drama around then there is right now. The majority of your followers probably don’t want to hear or be involved with drama. The easiest way to deal with drama is to acknowledge it once and then ignore it. You don’t need to add fuel to the fire!

4. Be active and gain follows

No one wants to follow a fan account that doesn’t tweet at all.

One top tip is to invest in a co-owner from another country to cover all time zones. Some accounts on Twitter never stop tweeting because they have co-owners from all over the world who can tweet at all hours of the day.

You should also use trending topics to help gain followers, just don’t over do it!

5. Make it interesting

Even though Niall Horan sings the lyric, “same old shit but a different day”, in the song ‘Midnight Memories’, it doesn’t mean you have to do the same thing every day. It gets boring. Spice things up with these fun activities:

  • Games and competitions to win some sort of imaginary prize.
  • Telling some funny stories.
  • Bring up some throwback pictures of fetus Justin Bieber busking on the stairs of the Avon Theatre in Stratford, Canada (just a suggestion 😜)

The point is to be unpredictable and surprise your followers at all times, but it’s also good to have little “traditions” or repeated features because your OG followers will defs get a kick out of them.

All in all just be yourself and don’t force anything, relax, make some jokes and have a good time!

THANK YOU SO MUCH, EMILY! WE ADORE YOU. Tweet us @maximumpop if you’re thinking of starting your own fan account. We’d love to support you!
