Plenty of our faves have released albums in 2017. Fifth Harmony? Check. Lorde? Check. Dua Lipa? Check. The woman who currently holds the record for the ‘biggest female album released in 2017’ may surprise you though.
Say hello to Dame Vera Lynn. She’s 100 years-old and is in the running for being the ‘best-selling female artist of 2017’. In a new report by The Official Charts Company, it’s been revealed that Vera’s album has sold over 102,000 copies and holds the first-place claim to the ‘biggest female album released in 2017’.
Of course, the year isn’t over yet. Plenty more female artists are releasing albums in 2017, which could impact the league table. P!nk‘s ‘Beautiful Trauma’ came out yesterday, while Taylor Swift‘s ‘Reputation’ is due out on 10th November. But, it’s still pretty cool that Vera’s currently holds the claim to ‘biggest female album released in 2017’ and is the oldest living artist ever to score a Top 10 album on the Official Albums Chart.
Alongside revealing the league table for the ‘biggest female album released in 2017’, the Official Charts Company also announced the Top 40 albums of 2017. Unsurprisingly, Ed Sheeran is number 1 with ‘Divide’, Little Mix are in fifth place, with the sales for ‘Glory Days’ sky rocketing this year, and Harry Styles is at number 15.
