SPOILER! Who’s got what category on The X Factor 2012?

On last year’s X Factor, Tulisa took the notoriously difficult Groups category to victory for the first time; mentoring Little Mix from outsiders to national treasures. Kelly Rowland took the astoundingly good Girls category and somehow fluffed it, Gary Barlow did a good job with the Boys and Louis Walsh’s Over 25s… Well, the less said about them, the better (not that we didn’t love them).

And now, with Kelly Rowland out and Nicole Scherzinger in, the judges have been given their categories for the 2012 run… via a phone call with Mr Simon Cowell himself.

So, who has what? There are spoilers ahead…

According to The Sun (translation: ‘this might be wrong, but they’ve got it right every other year’), Gary has been given the tricky task of taking the Over 25s to victory. The ONLY time a contestant from that category has ever won was when Steve Brookstein succeeded in the first series back in 2004… though Olly Murs came mighty close in 2009. Matt Cardle would have been its second winner in 2010, but on that occasion the lower age limit was lifted to 28 and he was allowed to compete in the ordinary Boys group.

Elsewhere, Louis Walsh has the groups for what must now be the 8475th time. Seriously, it feels like the ONLY time he didn’t have the Groups was last year, when they actually went and won. Still, let’s not sneer at the great work he did with JLS back in 2008… could he win the show for the first time in seven years?

Nicole Scherzinger, who took charge of the Over 30s on The X Factor USA last year, has apparently been given the Boys to look after, whilst Tulisa has unsurprisingly been given the Girls. Their assignments aren’t particularly exciting if you ask us, but we’re sure they’ll be great.

Are you getting excited?

… Yeah, we’re more interested to see what Britney and Demi will be given on the USA version as well.
