Two of the week’s biggest songs head to head. Your vote decides the winner. 7 days to have your say. This week: The Wanted ‘I Found You’ Vs JLS ‘Hottest Girl In The World’. Let’s fight.
WHO: Jay, Nathan, Max, Siva and Tom are The Wanted and they are a boy band that sing a lot, and dance a little.
STATS: 2 Number 1 singles, 3 million US sales of ‘Glad You Came’, 10 nipples, 1 sold-out headline arena tour.
WHAT: Steve Mac-produced ‘I Found You’ the first single from their third album, follows massive hits ‘Glad You Came’ (written by Ed Drewett) and ‘Chasing The Sun’ (written by Example).
BEST BIT: Nathan’s scream-y/dream-y middle 8. It’s even been endorsed by the boys’ US manager Scooter Braun.
SOUNDS LIKE: Scissor Sisters meets ‘Glad You Came’ accordion-pop.
MP! VERDICT: Another top-notch shout-a-long tune from The Wanted boys that’s sure to be a massive hit, but we’re unconvinced those high notes on the chorus were a good idea. Nathan’s massive middle 8 moment scores lots of points but IFU doesn’t push our buttons as much as the boys’ previous releases, and the accordion riff seems lifted from ‘Glad You Came’. C+

WHO: In 2008 Aston Merrygold, Oritsé Williams, J.B. Gill and Marvin Humes entered and came second in the fifth series of TV show and Pop Star Production Factory The X Factor. They went on to score Number 1 singles with their first two releases ‘Beat Again’ and ‘Everybody In Love’.
STATS: 5 UK Number 1 singles, 3 million total sales worldwide, BRITs, MOBOs and books. Lots of them.
WHAT: Mr Bangladesh-produced ‘Hottest Girl In The World’ is the boys’ first single from their 4th album in 4 years. Pop’s busiest band? Probably.
BEST BIT: Is it Aston’s opening high notes or the chocolate-y smooth middle 8? We can’t call it. If you can, leave us a comment.
SOUNDS LIKE: Justin Timberlake the boyband.
VERDICT: Hand-claps, harmonies and high notes – good things come in threes and Aston and Co have absolutely nailed their comeback sound. They promised a brave new sound, and Hottest Girl’s super-slick thundering production delivers. Now where did we leave our dancing shoes? B+
