John Green approved and wonderfully weird – get ready for ‘The Rest of Us Just Live Here’

If you’re looking for your next favourite read, then you may have just found it.

Patrick Ness, author of the award-winning ‘Chaos Walking’ trilogy, never seems to stop. Having won every major award in children’s fiction there is, and being described as an “insanely beautiful writer” by none other than YA royalty John Green, there seems to be no slowing this lit powerhouse down.

And now, he has a new, wonderfully weird novel hitting book shelves this August – and you’ll really want to stick that in your diaries.

‘The Rest of Us Just Live Here’ is about the other guys. The ones who aren’t “Chosen” with a capital C, the ones who aren’t going to be taking down the hordes of zombies and other monsters terrorising the town. Patrick Ness wants to tell the story of Mikey – just a normal guy who wants to graduate and get the girl, before some other catastrophe hits his school.

Patrick said, “I have so much sympathy for all the Unchosen Ones because I always assumed I’d be one of them. I certainly was when sports teams were chosen in PE… But don’t we get to be the heroes and heroines of our own lives? Maybe with small Hs? Aren’t the things we do kind of extraordinary, too? Isn’t loving your friends and making your own decisions kind of amazing? I think so.”

We think so too, Patrick – and we already can’t wait for August.
