YOU REVIEW: MP!er Beth shares her thoughts on ‘The Rain’ by Virginia Bergin. The first in a series of cling to your seat sci-fi thrillers.
Ruby Morris is a typical teenager until one night, killer rain hits. She is left alone, trying to survive while being aware of the fact that, at any moment, it could rain and put an end to her and civilization.
What genre would you class the book as?
What was the best bit?
The best bit for me would have to be when Ruby was allowed off the coach to see Darius. Although this was probably meant as a sad part, it was here that I realised how much Ruby had changed throughout the book and, although at first Darius was the last person she wanted to see, at this point, he was the only person she wanted to see.
Anything you didn’t like?
Not at all. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it was well written and had aspects of humour which kept it from turning into a very sad book that was not enjoyable to read.
Would you recommend The Rain to your friends?
Most definitely! I would recommend it to anyone that likes reading Young Adult books, really.
Do you think it would appeal to girls or boys more? Or both?
I think it would appeal to both genders but probably more to girls as the protagonist is a girl.
Anything else you would like to tell us about the book?
I have never read anything like this before as I tend to stick to the same sort of books. I am glad I took a chance with this book as it was a book that I couldn’t bare to put down as I kept wanting to know what would happen next. I am looking forward to the sequel and seeing what happens to Ruby and whether she finds her dad.
