One Direction might be the most talented people we know, but these fans come close. They’ve turned passion, hard work and some pencils into fine works of art. So we’ve curated a Maximum Pop! One Direction Gallery series. First up? @Merima_Beslagic.
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Merima Beslagic. I’m 17 years old and I go to Secondary School. I love drawing and playing guitar.
When did you start drawing? Would you like this passion of yours to be a career or is it just a hobby?
I could say that I have always been good at drawing. I was the best in my class when I was in primary school, but I have taken drawing seriously since December 2011, when I first heard about One Direction. My first ‘serious’ drawing was actually a portrait of Liam. Drawing is just a hobby for me, at least for now. I don’t know what is going to happen in the future, but I hope I will keep drawing because I really love it.
How would you describe your style and what techniques do you use?
I don’t really have any technical knowledge about drawing: I just draw the way I like it. I like trying all techniques and I would draw anything, but drawing portraits is my passion. Especially portraits of the One Direction boys.
What inspires you and why? or When and why did you start doing fan art?
One Direction is my inspiration. I started drawing them from the very first moment I saw them and I never stopped since. They really have changed my life. I dream of travelling to London and meeting them. If someone offered me the opportunity to meet them in exchange for one of my drawings, I wouldn’t doubt it for a second.
How many fan art drawings have you made? Which one is your favourite and why?
I have over 300 drawings. More than 250 of them are One Direction-inspired. My favourite one is a One Direction life-size drawing (320x190cm). When I did it, people started doing life-size fan art as well, which made me really happy. I did that drawing because I thought, that way, they would have noticed my art, but they didn’t. I am planning on doing another one soon.
What was the hardest to draw and why?
I really like life-size drawings, but they can be quite hard to do. I have drawings of Austin Mahone, Waliyha Malik and One Direction in natural size.
