The Girl of Ink & Stars launch at Daunt Books, Marylebone High Street.

We were absolutely delighted to be present at the fantastical launch party for Kiran Millwood Hargrave’s debut novel ‘The Girl of Ink & Stars’, at Daunt Books in Marylebone High Street.

‘The Girl of Ink & Stars’ is a gorgeous fantasy novel that tells the story of Isabella Riosse, a young girl living on the Island of Joya with her cartographer father. Her best friend is the formidable Governor’s sweet oblivious daughter, who is the catalyst for mayhem when she runs away to the island’s Forgotten Territories. Now Isa must search for her, using her knowledge of maps and stars…

It seems like forever since we received our proof copies – or maybe that’s just because we loved them and devoured them super-fast – so seeing the book take flight into the world at last was truly wonderful.

It was quite the occasion. Authors, bloggers and publicists were all present – with champagne in one hand and a shiny new copy of the book in the other.

Kiran’s speech had us all close to tears. She joked as she produced her cue cards that it would be like an artist or actor being forced off stage at an awards ceremony with loud music playing – but we loved every minute of it. She thanked her family, some of whom had travelled from far, far away to be at the launch (Leeds and India were two distant locations!), her partner (who bought her the outstanding and totally appropriate dress for the event, well done him!) and her friends online (hey, that’s us!).

We must pay a special mention to the food that was circulating the room as we excitedly chattered amongst ourselves and queued to get our books signed. The loveliest savoury snacks, plus a salted caramel and chocolate brownie creation too, which was next level delicious.

Congratulations, Kiran. We so loved the launch party, and we adore you.
