It seems like the long running trend of book to film franchise splitting their last instalments into two high budget films may be at an end.
The final book in Veronica Roth’s trilogy, ‘Allegiant‘ — which was originally going to be split into two, the first with the same namesake, the fourth instalment aptly named ‘Ascendant’ — may not see the light of day. In the cinemas, that is.
Yep, that’s right. According to Variety, ‘Ascendent’ is potentially going to be turned into a TV movie instead with an additional spin-off series set in the same dystopian universe.
It comes as no surprise considering the first two films, ‘Divergent’ and ‘Insurgent’ were such box office hits and ‘Allegiant’ was comparably, well, not. Perhaps its performance will do better on the smaller screen — though we’re not sure how we’d feel about a Tris and Four not portrayed by Shailene Woodley and Theo James.
Tbh, it’s not something we’ve ever seen happen before, in less you count it happening in reverse with ‘High School Musical 3’. But that was definitely a good transition from small to big.
We’re a little apprehensive about this one. Still, if it means the series gets finished, we can’t really complain. Plus, a whole extra series?! We’re intrigued, for sure.
