This teen is about to become your fave new singer and you’ve gotta hear her song

She wrote it when she was just 13

Stop what you’re doing, put everything down and come a little closer. We’ve got a brand new singer that you need to check out.

As regular readers of Maximum Pop! will know, we recently teamed up with stationery brand BIC® to help spread the word about their awesome ‘Write and Shine’ competition.

The competition involved BIC® and YouTuber MusicalBethan hunting down a fresh, talented songwriter and we finally have a winner – meet the incredible Lily Finlay.

Lily’s 18 years old, lives in West Yorkshire, and won BIC®’s fantastic prize. Not only did she snap up the chance to record her song ‘Jeans’ with a team of professionals but she also performed it at this year’s Big Feastival, where acts such as Olly Murs and Louisa Johnson also played.

Maximum Pop! caught up with Lily on the day of the festival to see what the experience has been like. She spoke to MP! presenter Luke Franks about where the idea for ‘Jeans’ originally came from and how she was only 13 when she wrote it. Wow – talk about talented.

MusicalBethan a.k.a Leadley also sat down and had a natter to us. She revealed what tips she’d give to new songwriters like Lily and shared a very strange vocal warm-up.

It will have you lol-ing for days and we’d 10/10 recommend doing it whilst using Snapchat’s dog filter. Take a look in the interview below.

Naturally everyone loved ‘Jeans’ when Lily performed it live onstage and it’s making us even more excited for when she releases the final version of the track later this month.

Lily heads back into the studio on the 10th September to finish off ‘Jeans’ and it will be uploaded on the My BIC Pen UK Facebook page shortly after – so you may want to hit like now to stay in the loop.

Feeling creative and fancy penning your own original song after seeing Lily’s? You can also buy your own BIC® 4 COLOURS™ pen here.
