Maximum Pop! were very lucky to bag tickets to Selena Gomez’s sell-out gig at London’s Hammersmith Apollo this Saturday and because it was just too good to keep to ourselves, we thought we’d share all the juicy deets with you!
Selena’s set was split into five sections, each preceded by “dream” video introductions. The videos each saw Selena open a different door and enter a room themed on the songs she would perform in the set. Selena bounced onto stage for her opening song ‘Bang Bang Bang’ and launched straight into an infectious dance routine, her see-through white top and black leather shorts showing off her seriously hot bod! After her opening performance, Selena moved on to her 2010 single ‘Round & Round’ and new album track ‘Like A Champion’ before moving onto ‘B.E.A.T.’ which included a sample of Iggy Azalea’s ‘Work’, and the star’s rapper alter-ego Selly G made her first appearance of the night.
After the second “dream” interlude, Selena returned to the stage to perform her latest album’s title track ‘Stars Dance’, which saw Ms. Gomez get a bit emosh. This was succeeded by ‘Write Your Name’. After a touching speech about how all over her fans have “written their names across her heart”, Selena brought some belated birthday celebrations in ‘Birthday’, which was remixed with Rihanna’s ‘Birthday Cake’ and involved a very energetic chair dance! She then moved on to hit song ‘Love You Like A Love Song’, showing off her vocals by performing the first verse as a ballad.
The next video interlude showed Selena at her Spring Breakers movie premiere, with news reporters speaking about her break-up with Justin Bieber over the top. Key words flashed onto the screen and Selena returned, this time dressed in white shorts and a black and white chequered crop top to perform ‘Love Will Remember’. Next up were the covers, Selena told the buzzing crowd that these songs were songs that inspired her to do what she does. Afterwards, it was time for the fans to treat Selena. During her performance of ‘Who Says’, fans (including MP!) each held up an A4 sign saying “I’m Just Beautiful Me”, to which Selena looked genuinely surprised and thankful.
After the last video interlude, Selena returned to perform tracks ‘Whiplash’, smash hit ‘Naturally’, ‘Save The Day’, ‘Undercover’, and a remix of her single ‘A Year Without Rain’. Returning for her encore in a black cropped jumper, Selena performed her latest singles ‘Come & Get It’ – with a very sexy routine – and ‘Slow Down’. The show ended in an array of confetti (which MP! may or may not have scrambled around on the floor collecting!)
Selena put on one AMAZEBALLS performance and we still have the ringing from London’s opening show in our ears as we type this! We cannot wait for Selena’s next world tour. Hurry up Sel!
