Samantha Harvey is a singer songwriter with a bundle of love from her fans on social media, in particular YouTube. She’s recently collabed with our babe, Conor Maynard which we are loving and now we’ve got some time with the blonde beauty to get to know her.
Hey Samantha! So for those who don’t know you, can you describe yourself in 140 characters or less?
I’m Samantha Harvey, a singer/songwriter and I’ve been very fortunate to grow a large following through singing songs on my bathroom floor.
We’ve watched your covers and absolutely love your fashion sense! Where do you tend to go shopping for clothes?
Thank you so much! My fashion sense is completely high street! I love simple clothing, I don’t feel like you have to spend lots of money to get great fashionable clothes and I hope one day I will have my own affordable fashion line.
You’ve been in the studio a lot lately – what can we expect from your upcoming music?
I have been in the studio a lot, I recently came back from a songwriting week in Berlin which was amazing!! You can expect from my upcoming songs that they have always got an emotional attachment to me and my life with stories I have been through. The artists that stand out most to me and those that I look up to have always written such personal songs with honest true lyrics that others can connect to, I like to think that I’m on the same track.
Who is one name in the music industry that you would absolutely love to work with someday?
It’s hard to name one artist that I’d love to work with in the future as there are so many! But if I had to nail it down to just one person it would have to be Ed Sheeran, he is an amazing songwriter and artist. I think that we would get on really well and make a lot of great music.
We can twist our tongue all the way around – what’s your weird and wonderful party trick?
I can also twist my tongue all the way around, ha!! But my party trick is either making my eyelashes fold into my eye socket which freaks people out, or that I have a dodgy shoulder that clicks about 100 times when I move it backwards and forwards, I’ll definitely have to have a shoulder replacement one day lol!
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
If I could choose anyone to be my mentor I would choose Adele. Simply for the fact that I think she would be a right laugh, her sense of humour is brilliant and she would give great advice as I know she has worked hard to get to where she is. Even though she is still young I know she would be able to give me valuable advice and I’d probably have a greater chance of supporting her on tour if she was my mentor :)
Imagine we were going on a date with Harry Styles and asked you to create the ultimate date night playlist – what 3 songs would absolutely feature on there?
These are good questions! To be fair if I was going on a date with Harry Styles I think I’d be lucky to turn up to put the playlist on, I’d have probably fainted in shock ha! Three songs I would choose would be:
1. ‘Let’s Get It On’ by Marvin Gaye ( This is a chilled sexy song. Love Marvin Gaye!)
2. ‘Moment 4 Life’ by Nicki Minaj ( I can rap this one pretty well so might win him over on my rapping skills ha!!)
3. ‘#BDAY’ by Tank feat. Chris Brown, Siya and Sage the Gemini (This is my favourite song at the moment)
Our parents made us listen to Queen and The Beatles when we were growing up – what kind of music would you make your future children listen to?
I would like my children to grow up and choose their own types of music really. Growing up I listened to Elton John as Dad is a massive fan and also Take That as that’s Dad’s favourite band. Mum listened to Motown, but now I listen to everything from dance music through to R&B. If my children want to listen to classical music and that makes them happy then go for it, or if they want to listen to heavy metal, go for it but I’d just wear earplugs around the house or maybe limit them to using headphones!! Ha ha!!
We’re coming to stay in your hometown for a week – where would you really want to show us around and why?
If you were coming to my hometown, which is Ipswich, I would tell you to jump on a train with me and I’d take you to London. I would take you on the London Eye so you could see the whole of London from up high, and I’d take you to Madam Tussauds as I have never been before so would be an experience for me too! Would take you to see a West End show of your choice but I have nearly been to every one as I love them! So could advise you on which ones are worth going to… like ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ is unreal! I’d also make sure that in-between activities we headed out for lunch somewhere lovely and would take you up to a rooftop restaurant for dinner and drinks. Whilst you were here for the week you definitely should check out Buckingham Palace, there is so much to do in London! But I still love Ipswich. It’s my home.
Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
I am definitely not a morning person, I can get up early easily but I like to eat breakfast in peace. Sometimes my mum asks me fifty questions at breakfast which makes me grumpy for the rest of the day, I’m sure she does it on purpose ;) but I love late evenings watching films and eating lots of bad food! So wrong but feels so right. I do usually have to get eight hours sleep or more though to function normally the next day.
