Chart round up: Sam Smith hits the top spot and The Brits cause chart havoc!

Last week we found out that silky-voiced soul pop crooner (and perfecter of Serious Face) Sam Smith could be racing to the Number 1 spot with his first single proper ‘ Money On My Mind’ and it looks like he’s gone and done it!

Smith beat off competition from the likes of Clean Bandit, who have been hogging the top spot for a whole month, as well as a new entry from A Great Big World feat. Christina Aguilera with ‘Say Something’.

Meanwhile in the album charts the Brits effect is in full swing with almost all the nominees and performers including Bastille, Ellie Goulding and Disclosure getting a huge sales boost. However poor old Nina Nesbitt, who was on the her way to clinching a number 1 with debut album ‘Peroxide’ before Brits-mageddon, has had to settle for number 11.

Yet another chart rollercoaster it seems… ’til next week, folks.
