It’s that time of year when our eyes are all glued to the TV screen every weekend to see whether our fave will survive ‘The X Factor’ for another week.
One of this year’s highlights is definitely the adorable couple that are contestants Emily and Ryan. We’re trying to come up with a ship name for those two but we can’t decide between – Emilyan or Remily? Leave a comment in the comments box as to your choice.
We spoke to Ryan about what it’s like to be part of an OTP…
Hey Ryan. Could you tell us about your experience on ‘The X Factor’ so far?
It’s been the craziest and most exciting experience of my life. It’s not like what you see on TV. It’s really different. You need to experience it yourself to know what it’s like.
What has surprised you the most about the show?
It’s so much hard work. You don’t really see it watching the show. You think they just show up on Saturday to sing and that’s it. But throughout the week you’re always busy and there’s so much work that goes into the overall show.
What made you want to decision?
It was kind of a last chance thing for me. I was more focused on the songwriting because that’s my first love. So I thought this could be my last opportunity to perform so I did it and it’s kinda paid off OK haha.
How does it feel to be saved by the lifeline vote three times in a row?
Oh it’s the best feeling. It’s one of those things you can’t really describe and last week I managed to get through without even being in the bottom three, so that was really amazing. You could see the shock on my face when I found out haha.
If you got to the final who would you most like to duet with?
Olly Murs probably. I think we have a similar style. I would also love to duet with The 1975, but I don’t know if they’d come on.
Would you like to go down a more indie pop route?
Maybe, but I do love pop.
You did perform at the Capital FM Summer Ball, which is as pop as it gets.
It was another amazing experience. I’d love to be back there again, but being able to say that I’ve performed at Wembley is amazing. My changing room was next to Jess Glynne and will.i.am. It really gave me an insight into the pop star world.
It’s been a crazy year for you. How are you dealing with it?
I don’t know. It does get really difficult sometimes. You get real ups and downs, but hopefully we can end the year on a high. I’m working really hard and I can see the results pay off.
How does it feel to be part of the a ship?
Both Emily and I just love ‘The X Factor’ and it’s great that we both have gotten this far. I think it’s the first time a couple have got through together.
You are the OTP of ‘The X Factor’. The Beyonce and Jay Z.
Is it difficult dating a competitor and keeping your head in the game?
We’re really supportive of each other so we don’t let that affect us. When we have to rehearse, we rehearse. We just focus on why we’re here.
You guys are such goals. A few days ago OK! magazine reported about your and Emily’s PDA. What are your thoughts on that?
I don’t see why it’s a problem. We’re just doing our own thing and we’re together so why wouldn’t we want to show that? But I suppose that’s the sacrifice you make for being in the public eye. It’s a struggle with your private life and you don’t really get time to yourself, but when you do you just make it as special as possible.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
Haha I don’t know. I’m actually pretty good at stuff like this. I get her roses. I’m very traditional.
What’s your favourite Scottish tradition?
You can’t beat New Year in Scotland. It’s the place to be. Hogmanay is the best.
What are the top three things on your bucket list before you turn 21?
Go to L.A, skydive and crowdsurf.
Would you survive a horror film?
Only if I didn’t say “I’ll be back’. I love horror films. I’d love to be in one.
Thanks for chatting to us Ryan! Good luck with the show.
Tune in to ‘The X Factor’ tonight to see Ryan’s performance. You will also be able to catch him on ‘The X Factor’ tour next year.
