Rixton cover (and add some cheeky changes to) Taylor Swift’s ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’. Cover corner.

Here at MP!, we’ve been pretty keen on those cheeky Rixton lads ever since their brilliant debut video for Make Out. So much so, that we couldn’t resist having a good old stalk look through some of the other material on their official YouTube channel.

What we found was a lovely selection of the boys (unfortunately not topless – sadface) performing some very good covers, all cleverly tweaked to sound a bit more…well, Rixton-ish. There’s NeYo’s ‘Let Me Love You’, Chris Brown’s ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ and er… ‘The Thong Song’ by Sisqo. We’ll forgive you for that one, lads, because we fancy you a bit (read A LOT).

Our favourite by far is their re-working of T-Swizzle’s ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’. What they’ve actually done is imagined how the poor old target of this song might feel by changing the lyrics – the best line comes about half way in when Jake and his naughty grin proclaim “There was only one direction but you went the wrong way.” OOFT! Scandalous. We’re naming NO names.

Not only have the boys been busy re-writing other people’s songs, they’ve also been literally popping up all over the country in a series of acoustic outdoor gigs. MP! caught up with them in a car park in Manchester (no, really) as they entertained fans with a short set including ‘Make Out’. We couldn’t resist asking where they got the idea for the hilarious video.

“It was just an excuse to get naked, really,” drummer Lewi Morgan told us. Well lads, that’s a good enough reason for us, and you have our permission to do it again (and again, and again…).
