We were gutted when Goddess of Pop, Kylie Minogue, announced she was leaving The Voice to go on tour. She was a perfect fit for the team and the show was really starting to hit its groove. Ah well, the show must go on, as they say.
If you’re going to find someone to replace a popstar who’s been going for 27 years, has the most-played song of the 2000s, multiple platinum selling albums and chart toppers, you can’t drop the ball here. The BBC have today announced who that someone is… Rita Ora.
Don’t let us down, Rita.
Okay, Rita isn’t exactly a living legend like Kylie, her personal life in the tabloids threatens to overshadow her music sometimes and whilst we love getting down to ‘Hot Right Now’ on a night out, a lot of her songs sound like they could be by anyone. Having said that, she’s only been going for a few years and has already notched up four number ones! Only Geri Halliwell and Cheryl Whatshersurnamenow have managed the same thing, and they were part of iconic chart-topping girl groups before going solo – clearly people love the Ora.
We’ll have to see how she fits in with the other coaches, but they all seem happy to have her. In the press release, Ricky Wilson says “I’m sure the audience will love her” and will.i.am calls her “sweet, spicy and sassy”. So it looks like everyone’s pretty confident about the whole thing, we’ll just have to wait and see how she does. With The Voice back in January, and Rita starring in Fifty Shades Of Grey out later, 2015 could be the Year of the Ora.
Explicit: put some headphones in if you’re on a bus.
