The original troublemakers – Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew (boo, hiss) – are some of the Potterverse’s favourite characters, even though we still don’t know a lot about them.
We’re pretty sure that Potterheads have been begging Queen JK for a Marauders prequel since forever. Let’s pull together what we know about the four mischevious minds behind the Marauders Map.
James Potter (Prongs) – the messy-haired rebel who won the hand of Lily Evans and was tragically killed by Voldemort on All Hallows Eve when Harry was just a year old.
Remus Lupin (Moony) – werewolf, Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, and all around good guy. He was the sensible one of the Marauders who Dumbledore made a Prefect in an attempt to get him to keep his friends under control!
Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) – a dirty, filthy traitor who gave the location of the Potters to Voldemort. Never trust a man who can turn into a rat to be your Secret Keeper.
Sirius Black (Padfoot) – one of the few good wizards from the Most Noble and Ancient Family of Black. He left home at 16 to escape his family and was burned from the family tree in response. He fought for the the Order of the Phoenix for the first and the second war against Voldemort.
Ultimately, all four of the Marauders lost their lives to Voldemort. It was Pettigrew’s hesitance to kill Harry that lost him his life, Sirius was killed by Bellatrix at the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Lupin fell in the Battle of Hogwarts and James’s death along with Lily set in motion the whole of the Harry Potter series.
They all had a tragic ending, but we’re still desperate to know more about them. Which Marauder are you?
We actually can’t decide if we’d prefer to be Lupin or Sirius…
