Pharrell Williams scores first Oscar nomination: Remains king of pop music.

Anyone with a pair of ears that hasn’t been living under a rock for the past year will know that 2013 was THE year of Pharrell Williams. The producer and performer was involved in two of the biggest hits of the year in the shape of Robin Thicke’s inescapable ‘Blurred Lines’ and Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’. He hasn’t slowed up the momentum in 2014 either, what with producing Paloma Faith’s funk-tastic new single Can’t Rely On You’ and his own sleeper hit ‘ Happy’ climbing to the top spot at the beginning of January.

As if that wasn’t enough to keep him busy, ‘Happy’ is now in the running for an Oscar! The track, which was first featured on the soundtrack to Despicable Me 2, has been nominated in the Best Original Song category and will be his first ever Oscar nomination. However he’ll have to beat off some stiff competition from the ‘Frozen’ soundtrack as well, in particular the hugely popular ‘Let It Go’, which could give him a run for his money!

We think both songs deserve to win but what do YOU think?
