Uh oh, the original voice of Belle has had her say on Emma Watson’s role in ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Beauty and the Beast‘ is for sure one of our fave Disney films, so the fact it’s getting the live action treatment is hella exciting. Not only that, but Emma Watson will be playing bookish Belle. Uh, surely it can’t get better than that? Well, you’d be wrong, because Ian McKellen, Ewan McGregor, Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci are also apart of the star-studded cast, playing Cogsworth, Lumiere, Mrs Potts and Cadenza (a new character!). Yaaas!

We feel like this is some seriously perfect casting, so whoever was in charge of that deserves an almighty round of applause. But the only person that can truly give the final judgement are the originals, and it turns out Paige O’Hara, who lent her voice to Belle in the 1991 animation, has had her say on Emma Watson.

It’s all good, because Paige has actually given her seal of approval for Belle’s casting in the live motion picture of ‘Beauty and the Beast’. And then some.

Talking to Buzzfeed, she said, “If I were producing the film, I would have cast her. I think she’s absolutely perfect for the role.”

She also went on to say that she thinks Emma has the “the outward beauty, but she’s also got an inward beauty about her, and an old soul.”

Honestly, we could not agree more. Emma Watson has shown us that there’s more to her than just her acting career or what she looks like, so we’re really intrigued to see her take on such a thoughtful and book-driven character such as Belle.

Paige O’Hara shared her own particular interest to see the scene in which Belle begins to see the Beast in a different light whilst playing in the snow.

“It was in the snow scene of ‘Something There’ that we made a specific choice that it hits Belle: She’s really falling in love with [the Beast]. I want to see Emma’s moment when she realises she’s fallen in love. That will be so exciting.”

Uh, yes! We’re ready for some fairytale realness from Emma, tbh.
