Mutya, Keisha, Siobhan, Heidi, Amelle and Jade – the list of girls who’ve been a member of the Sugababes is certainly impressive. But with the current incarnation of the UK’s most successful girl band of the 21st Century on a hiatus, and rumours that the original line-up are working together again, you’d be forgiven for getting a bit confused.
And that’s where we come in. Below is our handy guide to what each girl in (and out) of the Sugababes is working on. Read, revise and rejoice.
Joining the band in 2005, Amelle is still the only girl that’s had a Number One solo single, after collaborating with Tinchy Stryder on the hit song ‘Never Leave You’. Right now she’s working on her own material again, with a single called ‘Rebel’ apparently in the pipeline. She’s also leant her vocals to a dubstep track called ‘God Won’t Save U Now’, which you can listen to here.
After the band released their free single ‘Freedom’, Heidi went on to star in Dancing On Ice and was the one who revealed that the girls aren’t working on a new album together at this moment in time. She reckons being on the show has given her a new lease of life and plans to try out solo material and TV presenting whilst the band are on a break.
The first member to ever leave the group, Siobhan went on to release two critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful albums (including the stunning Ghosts, which we highly recommend you listen to) before slipping off of the radar. No official confirmation has been released yet, but tweets and rumours strongly suggest that Siobhan has reunited with two other ex-Sugababes stars to form a brand new band. Either way, she has definitely confirmed that new music featuring her vocals will be released later this year.
Formerly the last original member to be in the band, Keisha was subsequently replaced by Jade Ewen after the release of ‘Get Sexy’ and started work on her own songs. A source confirmed to Digital Spy that she’s been working on “a number of exciting projects, old and new” – heavily implying that she’s in the studio with Siobhan and Mutya – and reported that she will definitely release a solo album.
Despite claiming that she was done with the music industry back in 2010 and further denying claims that she’d reunited with Siobhan and Keisha, one look at her Twitter account proves that Mutya really has been in the studio with the two girls, allegedly working on tracks penned by the likes of Emeli Sandé and Xenomania, who produced previous hits ‘Round Round’ and ‘Red Dress’.
The most recent new addition to the band, after previously representing the UK at Eurovision with ‘It’s My Time’ and planning to release solo single ‘My Man’. With the group currently on a break, Jade has also confirmed that she’s working on her own music and has even started uploading new YouTube covers.
