One Direction says, “All my favorite conversations always made in the A.M.,” and it’s safe for us to now say that all our favorite albums are Made In The A.M. See what we did there?
Released today ‘Made In The A.M.‘ is Niall, Liam, Louis and Harry’s fifth album as One Direction, following the global success of ‘Up All Night’, ‘Take Me Home’, ‘Midnight Memories’, and ‘Four’. We’ll take you through all 17 tracks on the deluxe version to get you properly psyched.
FIRST THOUGHTS: Mister Harry Styles mistakenly lead us to believe this would be a slow, sad song. That trickster.
REMINDS US OF: The Across the Universe version of ‘Dear Prudence.’
BEST LYRIC: “Yeah I see you at the bar, at the edge of my bed / Backseat of my car, in the back of my head.”
FIRST THOUGHTS: This song is STILL FUN.
REMINDS US OF: The nervousness we felt when One Direction blasted off to space in the music video. Were they coming back? Were they safe? Were they fed and watered?
BEST LYRIC: “Baby you’re a boat.” (If anyone BUT One Direction said that to us, we’d probably punch them.)
FIRST THOUGHTS: This is one of the only super light, carefree songs on this entire album, it seems.
REMINDS US OF: The fact that “causing trouble up in hotel rooms” means knocking over luggage carts and kicking around a football to Harry, Louis, Liam and Niall.
BEST LYRIC: “I could tell that you were curious (oh yeah)” because we all had an inkling didn’t we?
FIRST THOUGHTS: This song was much more indicative of the sound of the album than ‘Drag Me Down‘ or ‘Perfect.’
REMINDS US OF: That time we had a total Bridget Jones moment with our friends and started doing loads of air grabs while singing into a hairbrush. Yeah okay, it was last weekend.
BEST LYRIC: “How many nights does it take to count the stars? / That’s the time it would take to fix my heart.”
FIRST THOUGHTS: So, so, so catchy and bubbly. And how could someone not listen to One Direction when they try to confess their love on a rooftop?!
STAND OUT VOCALS: Louis’s high note in “You and I can stay awake and keep on dreaming.”
BEST LYRIC: “The priest thinks it’s the devil / My mum thinks it’s the flu / But girl it’s only you.”
FIRST THOUGHTS: This song feels like a bit of a knife to the heart to listen to. But in like, a really good way.
REMINDS US OF: The opening piano sequence from John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’
BEST LYRIC: “I’ve got scars, even though they can’t always be seen / And pain gets hard, but now you’re here and I don’t feel a thing.”
FIRST THOUGHTS: This feels like One Direction reminding us that even though they seemingly have everything, their lives aren’t perfect. We love them for being so human.
STAND OUT VOCALS: Liam’s vocals that blend with the strings at the end and resonate beautifully.
BEST LYRIC: “I try to forgive you / But I struggle cause I don’t know how.”
FIRST THOUGHTS: WHO’S GRUNTING???
REMINDS US OF: ONE DIRECTION, BUT GRUNTING.
BEST LYRIC: “Lips so good I forget my name.” (*fans self*)
FIRST THOUGHTS: How much does it cost to legally change our name? Who is that talking about resting for four bars?
REMINDS US OF: A combination of the Jonas Brothers ‘Love Bug’ and Willy Wonka’s ‘Imagination’
BEST LYRIC: “This isn’t the stain of a red wine / I’m bleeding love” (not to be confused with Leona Lewis, obv)
FIRST THOUGHTS: What would all of the boys look like with an afro?
MAKES US WANNA: Wear flare jeans
BEST LYRIC: “What a feeling to be a king beside you somehow”
FIRST THOUGHTS: We’d never been heartbroken before listening to this song.
REMINDS US OF: OneRepublic’s ‘Apologize’
MAKES US WANNA: Pour our tears into a pint of ice cream
FIRST THOUGHTS: Stripped back One Direction, no frills but none needed.
REMINDS US OF: Fleetwood Mac ‘Songbird’
BEST LYRIC: “Everything I need I get from you”
FIRST THOUGHTS: Who did they sample to get the wolf whistle in the background?
REMINDS US OF: Randy Newman ‘You’ve Got A Friend In Me’
STAND OUT VOCALS: “THIS IS NOT THE END, THIS IS NOT THE END!”
FIRST THOUGHTS: 1-800TEMPORARYFIX on speed dial
MAKES US WANNA: Turn the volume up and drive a convertible down the highway
REMINDS US OF: ‘No Control’ 2.0
FIRST THOUGHTS: This conveys a really deep and meaningful message while still using those killer hooks that get stuck in your brain.
REMINDS US OF: Paul Simon ‘Graceland’ (okay, Harry gave us that one)
BEST LYRIC: “Just close your eyes / I’ll be by your side, any time you’re needing me”
FIRST THOUGHTS: Catchy af, why are some of One Direction’s greatest songs bonus tracks?
REMINDS US OF: Michael Bublé
STAND OUT VOCALS: We’re digging the group “oohs”.
FIRST THOUGHTS: Last song on the fifth album, please don’t end. Louis’ vocals in the last section are a great way to end the album.
MAKES US WANNA: Slow dance with someone in the middle of the night in our bedroom.
BEST LYRIC: “Swimming round in our glasses / Talking out of our asses”
