If you’ve been a fan of One Direction for one year or five, you’ve shared in the fandom’s frustration when it comes to the GRAMMY Awards. But 2016 might finally be the year Niall, Liam, Louis and Harry get to take home a little golden trophy and add it to their shelves.
The GRAMMY’s official website explains that they receive over 20,000 entries (recordings that are submitted for GRAMMY consideration) per year from its members and registered media companies. The Academy’s Voting Members then vote on all eligible entries, and the results of that vote are the actual GRAMMY nominations.
As of now, we are still at the entries stage. For the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards, albums must be released between Oct. 1, 2014 and Sept. 30, 2015, and recordings must be commercially released in general distribution in the United States. These stipulations knock Made In The A.M. out of the running for Album of the Year due to its release date, but Four and ‘Drag Me Down’ are still eligible for nominations.
We’ve been told that One Direction’s entries are:
- Album of the Year: Four
- Record of the Year: ‘Drag Me Down’
- Song of the Year: ‘Drag Me Down’
- Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: ‘Drag Me Down’
- Best Pop Vocal Album: Four
Whether or not these entries will make it to become actual GRAMMY nominations lies in the hands of the Academy’s Voting Members, who must be professionals with creative or technical credits on at least six commercially released tracks (or their equivalent). The nominations will be announced on Monday, December 7, 2015, and the official Awards ceremony will be on February 15, 2016.. Fingers crossed until then!
