Meet new Norwegian singer-songwriter Elizabeth Kostova and hear her single ‘Traffic’

We’d like to introduce you to our newest obsession, Norwegian singer-songwriter Elizabeth Kostova. She won Norway’s ‘Idol Junior’ in 2007, and ‘Det Store Korslaget (The Great Choirs)’ in 2010. With an EP due out next year, you can hear Elizabeth’s influences from Ella Fitzgerald, Alicia Keys and Emeli Sandé in her first-ever single, ‘Traffic.’ She’s new to London, so if you spot her, give her a wave!

We asked Elizabeth a few questions to get to know her a little better.

Tell us about yourself.

I am Elizabeth Kostova and I just turned 21! Been in London for 3 years now as a student and loving it! Started taking piano lessons at the age of 4, and was influenced by my father who was a musician at the time. I also started taking singing lessons at the age of 7, and have ever since taken part of singing competitions in Norway and performing and recording a lot whilst growing up there. I am so excited to finally have my EP and to get more into the music industry here in the UK!

Tell us why we should listen to you in 140 characters or less.
I called the EP ‘Pure’ as what you will see is that the songs and lyrics are just genuine feelings of heartbreak / relationship problems. I always use music as a way of expressing my emotions and it’s a great way for you to get to know me.

If you had to describe your sound by combining 2 or 3 fairly well-known artists who would they be?
I would say Emeli Sande, Beyonce and Alicia Keys

What kind of message would you like to send to your fans with your music?
I definitely want to express my story and feelings through my music, but also inspire to always for your dreams and work hard on whatever you want to achieve! I am very passionate about that!

What’s the best lyric you’ve written?
Something very personal I wrote a couple of years ago, which I am happy to share at a later point.

Why should I follow you on Twitter? (@elizakostova)
I am aiming to share things in my life with people who like my music and also get to know my followers as well! Will also use Twitter to update where I perform and everything that is going on in my career.

Anything else you’d like us to know?
Rather than being thankful for this interview, I hope you like my songs and I am super excited to see what the future brings!
