We’ve been speaking to rising Dutch superstar Natalie La Rose about all sorts in the run-up to the UK release of her debut hit ‘Somebody’. We spoke all about Whitney Houston, Ed Sheeran, Fifth Harmony and a whole lot more in our interview with her. Find out everything you need to know below…
Welcome to the UK! What are your three favourite things about being over here?
Thank you so much! My first favourite thing is the British accent. I always try and do it myself but I’m never successful because it’s pretty difficult. The second thing I would say is I’m dying to eat the fish and chips, I’m just trying to find the best spot to eat it. Other than that, I’m in London right now and the city is just beautiful. Beautiful houses and the architecture, I love it.
Your debut single ‘Somebody’ is released here this Sunday, how excited are you to finally be releasing it in the UK?
I’m very excited. I’m super excited to see that it’s already being played on the radio before it’s officially released and the video’s on TV which is great. All the response to it is so positive so I’m really happy.
One question that all of our readers want to know the answer to is who is the somebody that you want to rock and take shots with?
Basically, I love to have positive people and positive energy around me so anybody that’s happy and wants to party is welcome to rock with me, and take shots if they want.
What do you think your music brings to the UK charts that is different from what we’re hearing at the moment?
I’m a huge fan of 80s sounds and I think it’s bringing the 80s sound back because the hook of the song is inspired by Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, which was a huge 80s hit. Other than that, I’m just trying to bring feel good and positivity and I want to inspire people to listen to my music.
You’ve stated Whitney Houston as one of your musical influences. If you could take on any other Whitney song, which would you pick?
I would say ‘How Will I Know?’. It’s a really, really great song and it’s a little bit in the lane of ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’.
US rapper Jeremih features on ‘Somebody’ but if you could pick an UK based artist to make a new remix of the track with, who would you pick and why?
I think Ed Sheeran would be really cool to do a remix with.
Last weekend you were in Norwich for Radio 1’s Big Weekend. What did you make of it?
I had a really, really great time. I had the chance to see Hozier live and he is an amazing artist. Other than that I was just hanging out and meeting new people and I think it’s such a great event. I would absolutely want to perform there. I’d love to be at the next one.
You have recently been announced as one of the opening acts for Fifth Harmony’s summer Reflection Tour in the States. How excited are you to be touring with them?
I’m very excited. First of all, the girls are great. They have great energy and their songs are really cool. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen them perform live but they have so much energy and sass on stage which I think is really cool and other than that it’s my first tour as a solo artist with my own music so I am super excited about that.
We’re really looking forward to Fifth Harmony’s UK invasion that begins later this week. Do you have any idea as to what surprises we could expect from them whilst they’re over here?
I’m not completely sure what kind of surprises they’ll have in store for you. But I can tell you one thing for sure: they’ll come with loads of energy and they’re the life of the party!
If you could take on any 5H track and give it a Natalie La Rose spin, which would you choose?
I think ‘Worth It’ is a really cool song. I would definitely be able to dance to it and get my groove on!
Will there be a chance for your UK fans to catch you live soon?
I hope really soon. This stay in the UK was really short. So I hope when I come back next time, that I’ll be able to stay a little longer and hopefully do a couple of live shows.
You’ve also been performing constantly with Flo Rida for the past couple of years. What has that experience been like?
Being on the road and doing all these shows with Flo really prepared me for what I’m doing at this very moment. I’ve been able to practice in front of so many different crowds in so many different countries, which has helped me to become more and more comfortable on stage.
What’s the best piece of advice that he’s given to you?
Definitely to work hard, be patient and don’t get too comfortable.
Are there plans to release another single or even a full album soon?
Yes! Both my new single and EP will be released in June.
What can we expect from the EP?
You can expect loads of cool and different rhythms in my songs. Some are uptempo and some have more of a chilled vibe.
What do you hope to have achieved by the end of 2015?
I hope that the EP is successful and the tour with Fifth Harmony that I’ll be going on in the summer will be successful too and I’ll hopefully be working on a full album.
Is there a final message you want to give to your UK fans?
I can’t wait to meet my UK fans! I hope to come back soon and do a few performances for them.
