You know the one.
Mockingjay Part 1 is indeed the first part of the third book, which they’ve chopped into two. You’ll have to wait another whole year for the final instalment of The Hunger Games even though it’s actually all been filmed except one short scene.
Mockingjay Part 1 starts with a stripped back barely recognisable Katniss, if you can’t remember the ending of ‘Catching Fire’ Katniss is air lifted from the arena after District 13’s super plan of a rebellion.
If you’re after as much action packed into the minutes like the first movie then this isn’t the sequel for you, Mockingjay Part 1 runs a lot deeper into the ethics behind the districts civil war and gives J.Law a chance to look moody and confused, which suit her both very well, but she’d look awesome with a fish on her head wouldn’t she?
There are action packed sequences – Katniss is sent into the districts which have been attacked by the Capitol in order to get footage for a propaganda video. She visits a field hospital when President Snow spots her on some cameras and sends in the fighter planes to release bombs on innocent men, women and children.
Katniss and Gale have a much closer relationship in this movie, they even share a kiss again, which is kind of awkward as Gale replies he only gets attention when he’s in pain. Pain or no pain we’d give him a quick smooch.
For at least the first half of the film don’t expect to see much of Peeta, the Capitol still have him after capturing him from the arena at the end of the last movie…are you keeping up with this? You’ll see snippets of Peeta being interviewed/brainwashed by Caesar Flickerman and his health vividly deteriorating with each broadcast. Seriously, we wanted to hug him.
We always knew the first part of Mockingjay would be gearing up for the last in the franchise and that’s exactly what this does. It sticks to the main storyline of the book but most importantly it keeps you engaged, you’ll have no problem understanding who people are or what’s going on if you haven’t read the trilogy.
There are a few action packed sequences, there’s a love story, there’s a cat who we fell in love with and the very last scene of the movie will leave you shouting at the screen ‘WHAT THE HELL!’.
