We love gigs as much as the next person but we’re not ashamed to admit that we love treating ourselves to seeing a musical every now and then. Well, that’s exactly what happened the other night when we took momma MP! down to see Memphis the musical.
Memphis the musical is inspired by true events from the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis in Tennessee. Don’t worry, we didn’t know much about the 1950s either, but we can tell you that those guys and gals can SING!
It’s here that we meet Huey Calhoun an adorable dork like character who falls in love with the music and Felicia (Beverley Knight) – a talented singer who unfortunately can’t get noticed because of her race. 1950s Memphis sucked in that respect! Anyway, Huey was head over heels for Felicia and promised to get her played on the radio.
The rest of the musical follows the highs and lows that come with Huey and Felicia’s big dreams.
You’ll laugh, cry, feel happy and sad but most of all you’ll leave wanting to see this high-octane musical all over again. HOCKADOO!
