When the McBusted boys hit Children In Need last year, who’d have thought just one year later they’d be bringing out their debut album? But here we are, after a massive summer tour they have released the cleverly titled ‘McBusted’ and it doesn’t disappoint.
The album opens with the lead single, ‘Air Guitar’ which is infectiously catchy and sets up the ‘McBusted’ sound which is almost like a collision of the McFly and Busted’s music back in 2004 which by the way we are loving. The album then leads in to ‘Hate Your Guts’ which features Mark Hoppus and is a crazy, upbeat, fierce song which shows the boys with some serious attitude and by the last chorus had us singing back word for word leading to us sticking the song straight on repeat… next single we hope.
Following on from this is ‘What Ever Happened To Your Band’, which is written by their very own James Bourne and speaks fairly straight forward about life after Busted (very sadly for us all) split back in 2005, it’s alright now though as they are back and stronger than ever. Further tracks such as the bouncy, rock styled ‘Get Over It’ and vocoder-heavy ‘Riding On My Bike’ continue the unique funky rock sound boys have created by their collaboration.
A real highlight is ‘Gone’ which is the first time we can take a step back and lose the urge to dance. The mid tempo track which has a strong melody and lyrics such as “I’m done thinking about you forever” which shows a more sensitive side to the band, n’awww! On the flip side, tracks such as ‘How’s My Hair’ which see’s the lads singing about first world issues, such as how your hair looks – nonetheless, an amazing pop song still. The punk-pop track ‘Back In Time’ reminds us why we love McBusted, as it has catchy lyrics paired with a music which will sound UHMAZING live.
Overall, for a debut album it is an incredibly solid effort from these boys. Each track is dangerously catchy and features near perfect melodies to the extent where you end up listening to it on repeat ALL DAY LONG. The lyrics are creative and humourous where the lads even poke fun of themselves which has seemingly made these pop songs even better. These boys have proven they come to live when on tour so we are confident the live representation of this album is going to be incredible. Roll on album number two!
