Make-up Artist to the stars tells MP! her beauty must-haves and top summer trends!

It’s not every day you get to ask a celebrity make-up artist about what beauty looks we should expect to see soon, what beauty products she can’t live without and her advice for any budding make-up artists.

But we’ve only gone and done it haven’t we!

OH HO YES. Celebrity make-up artist Lan Nguyen-Grealis has worked on some absolutely fab peeps, including Paloma Faith, Myleene Klass and Vanessa White, to name but a few – and we got to ask her all sorts of wonderful questions.

Can you do our make-up, please? (That was not one of them).

For a bit of background, Lan is a multi-award winning self-taught make-up artist who has contributed to editorials in Vanity Fair, Elle UK, Glamour and Grazia, and is the beauty editor of Phoenix Magazine. Talk about a killer CV.

She’s cool.

She’s also a published author, with her new book Art and Makeup (below) showing her abso-stunning work, and she’s ALSO holding an Art and Makeup Seminar in London on June 27th, where you can learn the tricks of the trade – and get a £250 goodie bag of make-up. (ERM… DREAMY).

So what did we ask the lovely Lan? LET ME TELL YOU!

Your career journey is incredible. How did you get to where you are today?

I try not to think about it too much as the journey has a been a tough and long old road, with lots of challenges and sacrifices along the way.  However, looking back now all the late nights, the hard work and sheer persistence has paid off as I do get to do what I like creatively.

I invested a lot of time and money into presenting my work and getting out there to let people know who I am. Also, I think by just been able to work with everyone as a team player has been beneficial.

Your book, Art and Make-up, is an incredible showcase of your work and is absolutely beautiful page to page. What inspired you to create this book?

The main reason to create this book was to solely put myself and my work out there by trying to put makeup at the forefront as an art form. I felt the way I apply my skills through knowledge of the arts has helped me on my journey, and I thought it would be a beautiful way of showing this.

We can’t wait for your art and make-up seminar on June 27th! What can we expect from the event?

My art and makeup seminar is going to really be a way of dissecting the world of makeup as a business and an industry. The guest presenters such as Phyllis Cohen, Daniel Sandler and Ruby Hammer are perfect complimentary artists that showcase similar journeys in a different part of the spectrum as myself. There will be many beauty, fashion and creative looks but also a good opportunity to really see it up close and get to have a chat with myself and others.

Are there any fresh faces that you would love to work with in future?

I love Selena Gomez and Fifth Harmony whom I haven’t worked with, so it would be nice to work with them. Their looks are growing all the time and it’s lovely to see their styles. I’ve worked with Anne Marie and Vanessa White lately, and I’m excited about for the future.

What are some of the key make-up trends we should look out for over the next few months?

In the next few months there’s lot of colour on eyes and block liners. Strong looks with a slight 80s twist.

We always love to know – what are your top beauty items that you can’t live without?

I can’t live without a good highlighter and radiance foundation and concealer. I also have to have a fixing spray too, as I love been able to refresh a look quickly after a long shoot or show.

What advice would you give to any budding make-up artists?

I would recommend learn on the job and get as much experience as you can, but also be patient as it doesn’t land on your lap. What you put in you get back.

And there you have it! Don’t forget you can grab a ticket to see Lan at her event here.
