Louis Tomlinson seems to be a magnet for headline drama these days, no matter how much time and money he gives to charity, fans, and family. Over the weekend, Louis tweeted about winning a contest to design the Doncaster Rovers’ away jersey, and something that seemed innocent enough of course turned into major dramz.
Soooooo me and my Grandad Len won the competition of designing the new Donny away shirt. Pretty sick 😎

According to NME, “The club had hosted the competition to determine the design for the 2016/17 away kit, with five shortlisted entires put to a public vote, one of which was submitted by Tomlinson and his grandfather.” And now, Doncaster fans are up in arms over the fact that Louis won, claiming that the kit design was rigged in his favor after his long history of involvement with the club (and attempt to buy it).
Um, why does Louis’s apparent love and passion for the football club hold no meaning to these people?
A spokesperson for the Rovers told us exactly what we assumed: everything about Louis’s entry into the contest was completely fair. It won with 33.7% of the votes.
Part of the winner’s prize included a trip to Thailand, which yes, of course Louis can afford to experience on his own. We think it’s safe to assume that he did not enter the contest for that particular perk, but out of pure love for his hometown club. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see him donate that trip or something similar to someone local in need.
