As you’ve probably heard, the ladies of Little Mix are teaming up with USA Pro to bring you the best and cutest in athletic wear. Jesy, Perrie, Leigh-Ann, and Jade each gave us some insight on how they feel about staying fit, dealing with criticism, New Year’s resolutions, and more. Here’s what Leigh-Anne had to say.
What would be your top five gym bag kit essentials?
Erm so you know those bottles of waters that filter, one of those. My sister bought me a really good gym towel for Christmas, and I would bring a lip balm because I just need a lip balm all of the time, and I would bring a banana. Lastly, I would bring gloves for weights.
What are your favourite products from the new range?
I love the fact that it’s got a splash of colour. It’s good to feel fun when you’re at the gym because it not a fun thing to do, so yes, I think it’s nice to bring that fun out in it. Also I really like to colour coordinate my outfits at the gym, so to know that I’ve got a lot of colours to play around with will be really good.
What are your top 5 workout tips?
I have a trainer so I would say be with someone that knows the ropes and knows how to use the machines and everything, you need to get educated on what to do, and always stay hydrated, lots of water, and stretch after every workout as well because you don’t want to be ruined when your older
What are your top 5 songs on your workout playlist?
To be honest, I just listen to the music that’s in the gym. Anything upbeat, I always hear our songs come on in the gym and it just feels surreal.
What are your top ways to stay motivated?
I generally have something to work towards, some sort of goal, If there’s a particular event or something, I’m always motivated, if there’s nothing to really aim towards I’m not as motivated, I have to have something like a holiday to keep me going, I’m lucky that I’ve got a trainer to help me stay motivated.
Where are your favourite places to work out?
In the gym mostly, I think the gyms got everything you need, all the machines, I also have my own personal one that I do at home or in a hotel, so I do that sometimes , I also find it really hard to motivate myself so I need that trainer to tell me what to do and how long for.
What are your fitness secrets?
I eat as well as I can, so if I don’t train I don’t feel bad. Also, training twice a week isn’t really going to do anything, if you have a desired way that you want to be then it’s not really going to do anything and that’s what I used to do and no change was happening so I realised I needed to increase the amount that I was training , I began to see results.
If you only had 15 minutes spare each day what sort of exercise fitness activity would you do?
I would do abs.
What are you looking forward to the most about designing your own range with USA Pro?
I’m looking forward to being able to wear my range to the gym, it will be so cool, and I absolutely love training, it’s a big part of my life.
What should the public expect to see in your new range?
The main thing is comfort, I don’t want to wear anything that’s uncomfortable, I will make sure its comfortable for everyone to wear. I think there will also be a bit of colour in there as well, not something too much, but some colour.
You have all come so far in the last few years, and therefore so has the way you style yourselves, how would you say your identity has grown in the last few years?
I definitely think we have all evolved. Obviously fashion has evolved, we’ve all got our individual style which is amazing, but I think we have all sort of taken it up a level and we have become more stylish, wearing more designers. We also like to mix it up too, we don’t like to be too similar, and it is still a bit of a mix between us. Me personally, I love to experiment.
We know that fitness is all about moving, who would you say is the better dancer out of you four?
Jesy, she’s insane, she was a dancer before so yes, she’s very good.
When working away from home when touring, what do you do to kill time?
We don’t really have that much down time when we are working to be honest, but when we do its just nice to go back to the hotel room wherever we are and just chill. Because it doesn’t happen a lot, sometimes we will try and get a cheeky nap in if we can. But listen to some music and unwind as much as we can.
If you hadn’t pursued a music career, what would you be?
I actually wanted to be a primary school teacher. I wanted to do educational studies at university, but I didn’t really get around to it.
I’m sure that you’ll agree that fitness isn’t just about hitting the gym, what advice would you give to girls who don’t want to go to the gym, but still want to stay fit?
Running is really good, taking the dogs for a walk, just going for walks, power walking, just being on your feet. If you don’t really want to go to the gym you could do a workout DVD. There’s so many things that you can do. If I’m not going to the gym, I try and go for a run with the dogs.
Do you have anyone you look up to for fitness inspiration?
Occasionally I’ll have a look on Instagram to see women that work out and just have amazing bodies. I don’t have that one person that I really look to, maybe Rihanna, every time I see her in a bikini, she looks amazing. She’s got a flat beautiful stomach, and curves everywhere.
What is the last album you bought?
The Little Mix album, I bought two.
What are the top five things you couldn’t live without?
My phone, my bed, my curl activator for my hair, my dogs and my car.
What will be your New Year’s resolution?
I don’t have them because whoever follows them?!
