Song-Off: Katy Perry ‘Roar’ Vs. Sara Bareilles ‘Brave’

Has Katy done it again? And we’re not talking about creating an amazingly catchy and chart topping pop song, we’re talking about copying another artist.

At first we tried to deny it but after several listens the similarities between Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ and Sara Bareilles’ ‘Brave’ are quite striking. The fact that the ‘California Girls’ singer tweeted her love for ‘Brave’ way back in May 16th makes it even harder to ignore.

We love both empowerment anthems, but which one’s best? There is only one way to settle this: A Maximum Pop! Song-off.

[column width=half]Name: Katy Perry[/column]

[column width=half last=true]Sara Bareilles[/column]

[column width=half]Song: ‘Roar'[/column]

[column width=half last=true]’Brave'[/column]

[column width=half]Not to be confused with: Sara Bareilles ‘Brave'[/column]

[column width=half last=true]The Disney flick with the same name, starring a red haired heroine in Scotland.[/column]

[column width=half]Out: September 8th (available for pre-order now)[/column]

[column width=half last=true]April 23rd 2013 (so you can buy it now!)[/column]

[column width=half]About: Someone who was in a crappy relationship and is now going to stand up for themselves, speak their mind and fight back.[/column]

[column width=half last=true]Asking someone to stand up for themselves and speak their mind and, as the title suggest, be ‘Brave’.[/column]

[column width=half]Is it an uplifting song? Certainly![/column]

[column width=half last=true]Deffo![/column]

[column width=half]Best lyric: “I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire”- that’s some inspirational lyrics, right there.[/column]

[column width=half last=true]”Show me how big your brave is”- We would like to take this opportunity to state that this is not an innuendo or request for a dirty picture![/column]

[column width=half]Is it better than their last song? Definitely! Although we enjoyed the video for ‘Wide Awake’ the song never really won us over.[/column]

[column width=half last=true]We think so. ‘Stay’ is very different from ‘Brave’ as it’s a slowed down ballad and in our opinion a good pop song wins over a ballad everytime.[/column]

[column width=half]Does it feature Pitbull? No, surprisingly, Pitbull has not attempted to feature on this track.[/column]

[column width=half last=true]No, it’s Sara Bareilles, not J Lo![/column]

[column width=half]Should I buy it? Yes (well, pre-order for now)[/column]

[column width=half last=true]Yes![/column]

Now you have the facts, it’s up to you to decide which song you prefer. Has Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ won you over? Or maybe you prefer Sara’s ‘Brave’? Voting is now closed.

Result: It was a close one but Sara Bareilles’ ‘Brave’ won this song-off with 63.16% of the vote. But Katy Perry is still doing pretty well with ‘Roar’, so everyone’s a winner!
