Love provides inspiration for about 98% of all pop music songs – but divorce and heartbreak is no different. So fans of the bubblegum music usually found on a Katy Perry record might want to look away, because apparently it’s going to get *real* nasty.
Speaking to Interview magazine, Katy revealed that she’s finally ready to close the Teenage Dream chapter in her life with the Complete Confection re-release and is already thinking about her third album. And despite denying that current single ‘Part Of Me’ is about her recent breakup with Russell Brand (she claims it was written two years ago but didn’t make it on to the original tracklisting), she’s promised that her new music is about to change and become much more edgy. “My music is about to get real f***ing dark. I’ll be shoe-gazing.”
Could Katy be taking inspiration from the likes of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ or even Rihanna’s troubled Rated R album? If we’re honest, we’d rather she tackled the subject of her divorce in the traditional bitchy, cheeky Perry way (just like P!nk did with her hit ‘So What’) – but we’ve heard the singer get edgy before and we definitely liked it.
