Loved-up pop duo Karmin have struggled a bit to follow up last year’s monster hit Brokenhearted, but their new single Acapella looks set to banish any lingering suspicions that they’re a one hit wonder. It’s brash, infectious and totally distinctive – and now it has an equally eye-catching video to boot.
Here are 5 of the best bits:
Amy and Nick are rocking the matchy-matchy primary colours look in this video. Being dressed head-to-toe in lime green isn’t a look every pop star could pull off, but it totally works here.
Here at Maximumpop! we love a good dance routine, and ‘Acapella’ features a glorious array of synchronised moves. From invisible drumming to hopping on the spot to what can only be described as an extreme version of the funky chicken, Acapella is as much a workout as it is a pop promo.
For no apparent reason, about 2/3 of the way through the song everything stops so that Amy can take a bite of an admittedly delicious slice of freshly-baked Warburtons. Hey, even pop stars have to eat!
Again, not entirely sure what the point of this is (it may or may not relate to the Cinderella reference in the lyrics, though there’s no sign of it turning into a giant blue horse-drawn carriage), but not everything in pop needs to make sense.
He’s got the moves, he can carry off chinos in pretty much every primary colour and he has amazing hair. Not since the glory days of Andrew Ridgeley (ask your mum) has doing basically nothing in a pop video looked so irresistible.
Is Acapella the quirky breakout hit Karmin need, or is it just too weird to hit the big time? Watch the video below and let us know what you think…
